Sticky Radio
Sticky Radio (http://stickyradio.com) is an on-line urban radio station thats plays the best in Black music. The station is also an outlet for young people to gain industry level experience in radio, presentation, DJ’ing and hosting skills. Via workshops and short courses Sticky Radio is able to offer a range of accredited courses based on media, music production, preparing a radio show and promotion.
Why did I set up Sticky Radio
Music and Media is a passion for lots of young people out there, yet it’s an industry with limited opportunities. Many young people get involved with underground (pirate) radio stations and are often involved with something they do not know is illegal. I have known of DJ’s who have been playing on pirate radio stations and ended up in court, purely for the passion of their music.
Sticky Radio offers the young people an outlet to have their music heard by thousands of people locally, nationally and internationally.
I previously successfully set up an internet radio station in 2006 called Jam radio (www.jamradio.co.uk), I sold the station in 2009, but it continues to attract thousands of listeners from across the UK, Europe and the Caribbean.
Although Sticky Radio is a social enterprise aimed at making money and being self sufficient, it is also an outlet for young people to gain vital skills, experience and knowledge. Sticky offers a range of accredited courses that can be tailored to the individuals needs and interests, whilst gaining GCSE and above, equivalent qualifications.
Sticky courses and workshops
Sticky Radio courses not only focus on the creative arts and getting the participants to explore their creative skills and break boundaries – but they are also able to challenge stereotypes, behavioural issues, and support personal development and career progression.
Sticky courses offer:
- A great way for young people to explore creative skills
- A nationally recognised qualification equivalent to GCSE and above
- A framework for learning new skills and sharing them
- A link between young people and creative professionals in arts and media
- A rapidly growing award that can be achieved throughout England
- Industry level work experience
- A reference for CV and job applications
Sticky are able to tailor the courses to be based around any arts or media activity, and they can complete it in a wide variety of settings – like youth clubs, arts centres, schools, colleges, theatres or community groups – or at the Sticky Radio and Supatrax base in Walsall.
The courses are also very flexible, there are no entry requirements, no time limit for completing the award, and no set rules on how you present your final work. The only thing you need to be is aged between 11 and 25, and ready to explore new creative experiences.
